Optical Illusions

Optical illusions can come in any shape and in any form

Optical illusions can come in any shape and in any form. You mighthave optical illusions while going through a highway on a hot summer day. This is the time you get to see a mirage. A mirage is an illusive word which might elude you for a long time; you might run after it but is actually not there. The reason is pretty simple- it is a mirage and it is bound to disappear. Again and again it might appear in front of the eyes. Mirages are a form of optical illusions and it is one of the most common forms of optical illusion which is visible in front of us. A mirage is just a figment of our sensory imaginations which develop due to successive reflections of light. Usually in the summer days light from a distant place seems to be just in front of us due to the successive refractions of light at various layers of the earth’s atmosphere. When the light rays reach us it brings to us the images of the water bodies which are at a distance to us. Hence such images bring reality in front of our eyes but are they genuine? The answer is obviously no, since such images are nothing but just an optical aberration. This is a common phenomenon of the deserts and it is commonly an idea of travelers that a water body is present very nearby. Hence one can regard mirage as one of the most commonly found optical aberrations.

The red dot and the curved lines can be used as an example to explain many optical illusions. Our mind is constantly being loaded with new information and this information is constantly being registered in the brain. Some kind of advanced programming goes inside the brain to process these images. If you see a number of curved lines along with a red dot in the middle you are bound to notice them turn backwards. This is obviously due to the brain’s advanced response system. This response system filters out many things which are being repeated and in the same process it straightaway sees the curves turn right. The turning right of the bent curves imply that this filtering system is entirely based on the programming of our brain with respect to scanning images. This is a simple example but there are a host of such optical illusions which would be completely based on the brain’s inability to perceive things properly.

Hypnosis is a state of mind where the mind is fixated into a state of trance. Hypnotic optical illusions can be brought about in individuals who are under the influence of hypnosis. In this state the mind and body goes into a complete state of trance which would force them to visualize strange figures and perceptions. This is called hypnotic optical illusions. Hypnotic optical illusions would yield results which would be very startling and would go beyond explanation by any form of human expression. Hypnotic illusions are created I the mind and are completely lost after the hypnotic spell is broken. The person finds it difficult to recollect the things they saw during the hypnotic procedure. When objects are spun at high speeds at the front of a human eye; special effects are created which would help in generating a process of hypnosis. Special visuals would be created by this effect and spinning object optical illusion is a very common affair. Any rigid object spinning at high speeds would be a complete source of illusions since our vision would not be able to persist with a single frame for such a long period of time. This is one reason as to why we have optical illusions.
